Sandy Stevens is best known for her oil paintings that capture the divine essence of Hawai’i through her imagery of the feminine mixed with sacred places, botanical plants and the North Star. Her work combines her studies of yogic philosophy, spirituality and love of nature while exploring the gifts of the feminine and what it means to be a woman.

After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Southern Illinois University she began teaching Art in public, private and international schools from Carbondale, IL to Kansas City, KS to San Francisco, CA and finally to her happiest place of all, O’ahu.

She resides on the luscious green, windward side of O’ahu. Her biggest inspirations as an artist are the saturated colors of Hawaiiian nature, the ocean and the golden light that permeates throughout the island. She often paints en plein air around O’ahu and is influenced by her teacher and master en plein air painter, Mark Brown.

Sandy’s style has been described as playful, vibrant and imaginative with her use of lucid colors  and layers of soft, angular brushstrokes. While her approach is playful and bright, she is interested in exploring deeper themes of relationships. Her current collection of Divine Essence, explores the relationship between the subconscious and the conscious, the relationship between our inner and outer world, the relationship between the feminine and masculine and the relationship between our past and future. She believes that creating these paintings allows her to alchemize all of her life experiences, hopes and beliefs into imagery that can set people free and connect them to the truth of their origin. She wants her art to be “like visual medicine…. soothing, comforting and a visual mirror of each viewer’s purest form- Love.”
